Equipping Dietitians to Serve the Gluten Free Client

I had the opportunity today of speaking at the 77th Annual Meeting and Expo of the North Carolina Dietetic Association (NCDA). This was a 2 1/2 day event that brought 300 dietitians, students and vendors together to share products and evidence based nutrition information with one another. It was encouraging to see an enthusiastic attendance at the break out session "Navigating the Gluten Free Diet with Confidence: Equipping Dietitians to Serve the Gluten Free Client". There were dietitians present from across the state of North Carolina in variety of positions including, clinical hospital settings, school lunch, private practice, and university professors, to name a few.

I would like to say a special thank you to Rosie's Plate for sponsoring my talk at NCDA and for exhibiting information at the conference. I would also like to thank Zach, from GF Raleigh for conducting his informal poll of people's interactions with dietitians in respect to the gluten free diet. These results were shared during my talk.

I am encouraged by the interest in this area and by the availability of gluten free foods in an increasing number of settings.
